The esteemed Patrick Crean, who spent the last dozen years making Thomas Allen one of the country’s finest publishers — recent hits including this year’s Giller winner, Half-blood Blues, last year’s Giller finalist, This Cake is for the Party, and Russell Wangersky’s latest books — will be stepping down. The latest book book craze is in full swing: CanLit is Sexy, which takes book titles and tries to make them sexy. Warning: it favours quantity over quality, to the point of obscurity.
