In December’s issue of The Quill & Quire, February was declared one of the “Fifteen Books That Mattered in 2009.” From The Quill: “This is the work of an author unafraid to take risks, who continues to expand her scope with each outing.”
In the same issue, Carla Gunn’s Amphibian, which just last week The Globe and Mail called a top 5 debut novel of the year, was declared one of “2009′s most overlooked books.” As it says on Coach House Books’s website, the list is “a list of titles that, in a just world, would have been blockbuster bestsellers. Directly from The Quill: “‘One of this year’s most original literary creations is Phineas Walsh, the nine-year-old narrator of Fredericton author Carla Gunn’s polished, engaging first novel.”
